pink days

pretty pink

I don't have one of these cherry trees in my yard, but they are blooming all over the city. Here's what the sidewalks look like ...

trillium

pacific trillium

I took this picture last year, but this is pretty much what they look like right now. The trillium are growing near the base of the rhododendrons and other sort of shady places. I think they're so pretty! They turn a sort of pinkish color as they age out..

hello, springtime!

magnolia-ish flower

I know -- updates have been few and far between. It's been a busy winter -- unfortunately, not busy in the garden, as the weeds will attest. But I think we're about to do some overhauling. Most of the garden is perennial (so much easier!) but the beds need new soil, dividing and all that jazz. It is starting to look like it will be easiest to take EVERYTHING out (one bed at a time!) and start over. I'm hoping that I'll be able to make some room in the sunny corner for a raised vegetable bed! I've still got some time... most of the summer veggies I'm fond of can't really go in here in Portland until early May.

(the photo is from a magnolia that is not in my garden, but one I spotted while out on a walk)
