rhododendron time!

pink rhodie
what does a shrub full of these look like?

pink rhodie (full view)
like this!

pretty purple rhodie
and one not from my yard (but I love the yellow with purple)

rhodies in bloom
these are in my yard and out of control. They need some serious pruning, but I think that will wait until after they're done blooming.

I definitely think you should wait until after blooming - you wouldn't want to lose that show!
Love the two close up photos. I just kept staring at them.

By the way, could I ask what kind of camera use. I'm thinking of getting a new one and doing a lot of reseearch for one that takes good closeups.

Why prune them? They look great the way they are.

Thanks, Anna Maria! I use a really basic nikon point and shoot -- it's the coolpix 4600.

Thanks, Snappy and Ki! I love them too -- they are starting to go by now so in another couple of weeks I won't feel guilty giving them a little pruning.

You can't really tell from the photos, but there's definitely some scraggly bits that are not so beautiful. Not that I want them pruned within an inch of their life, but some of them are struggling to get to the sun, etc. etc.
